Portland, Oregon, has a well-deserved reputation as a haven for those who have no interest in conformity or mainstream expectations. It’s frequently cited as one of America’s “greenest” cities, and residents have access to a wide variety of carless transportation options, from bus and light rail mass transit, to bicycle-friendly streets, as well as plenty of pedestrian-only routes.
Unfortunately, it seems that some car drivers didn’t get the memo – specifically the person behind the wheel of this early 4th Gen Camaro. Per OregonLive.com, on Friday, April 17th, the car made a wrong turn onto the 2nd Avenue pedestrian walkway and the driver didn’t realize the mistake until the car was hung up on the steps. A quick look at Google Street View shows that while the walkway is level with the adjoining streets where they meet, for the most part there seem to be bollard posts to prevent mishaps like this one.
Turns out, though, that this isn’t the first time a wayward driver has failed to negotiate the 2nd Avenue walkway’s staircase. KOIN.com reported a similar incident involving a Toyota from April of 2014. Considering the way Portland has embraced some strange annual events like the World Naked Bike Ride, we wouldn’t be surprised if residents took it in their heads to get a car stuck on the steps every April, perhaps as a way of symbolizing the belief that cars trap us, rather than give us freedom…
Well, in any case, stay weird, Portland!
