It’s becoming clear that the more automotive technology advances, the fewer drawbacks there are to creating a truly brutal street-and-strip modern muscle car. Jannetty Racing out of Waterbury, Connecticut, recently put together this potent 5th Gen Camaro for one of their customers that is a perfect example of just how streetable seriously powerful LSX motors can be.
This 2010 Transformers Edition Camaro is powered by a Jannetty built 427 cubic inch LSX, stuffed with a Lunati crank shaft and Carrillo rods, and topped off with GMPP LSX 6 bolt heads and a FAST intake manifold. This engine would be a force to be reckoned with even in N/A form, but the guys at Jannetty really pushed this thing into the stratosphere by bolting on a Vortech YSi-Trim Supercharger. Jannetty says that the engine makes right around 1,200 horsepower at the crank, and as you can see from this video, the yellow Camaro lays down 1017 horsepower and 883 pound feet of torque at the rear wheels.
Just 15 years ago, a car with that much power would probably do more traveling in the back of a trailer than it would under its own power, but not today. The owner tells Vortech that the Camaro is 100% streetable. He says, “In fact, it is so streetable that I drive it 100 miles (roundtrip) to Jannetty just for an oil change. The car still has air conditioning, heated seats, stereo, power windows, and all the factory options work! Even with it being a 1,200 horsepower engine, I can still drive it anywhere. However, I am a mental case because I drive it with slicks in the rear and the electric exhaust cutouts open all the time. I haven’t gotten any tickets…yet.”
