Few sports cars are as well known or well regarded worldwide as the Porsche 911. This timeless classic has thrilled sports car enthusiasts all over the world, and while the basic aesthetic design has not changed much, over the decades it has gotten faster and meaner. The current Porsche 911 Turbo produces 473 horsepower and 457 ft-lbs of torque in a light car with the engine mounted in the trunk, rather then under the hood. It’s fast, nimble, and it’s the benchmark to beat for many performance vehicles.
So what is it doing lined up against a Cadillac CTS-V Wagon? Why, only getting beat by America’s meanest family hauler. Jalopnik found this video of the Hennessey-tuned Cadillac CTS-V Wagon spanking the Porsche, and it does our red, white, and blue hearts right.
From the factory the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon produces a potent 556 horsepower and 551 ft-lbs of torque; nothing to sneeze at even in the two-plus ton long-roof CTS-V . However, famed tuning house Hennessey Performance Engineering has managed to come up with an additional 100 horsepower for the wagon, putting it into Corvette ZR1 territory. Aside from the engine modifications, the only mod the CTS-V Wagon had was a pair of sticky drag radials. Meanwhile, the Porsche 911 Turbo has a 1,000 pound weight advantage over the wagon, which is huge for acceleration despite the CTS-V Wagon’s extra 200 horsepower.
The result of the drag race shouldn’t be surprising to any fan of the awesome CTS-V series of cars; the hefty wagon managed to take down the drag strip in 11.7 seconds at 121 mph. The Porsche covered the same distance in 11.8 seconds at 121 mph. A tenth of a second might not sound like a lot, but considering the mammoth market gap between these two vehicles (sporty family hauler versus mid-life crisis sports car) it’s pretty damn impressive what Hennessey has done here.
