We understand that there are certain automakers that have a very strong following of purists, who like the car in question in no other shape than how it came from the factory, and that’s alright. But when you have a very rare Lamborghini Diablo that was recovered from thieves and has no engine or transmission, what are you to do? Sure, you can find the correct engine and transmission, but they won’t be numbers-matching for a flawless restoration.
The answer for this theft-recovered Diablo owner was simple; put a 480 horsepower LS3 in it. Who else better to contact for the job than Renegade Hybrids, a company who makes swap kits for GM V8s to fit into Porsches of various model years? From what we gathered on the Facebook post, Renegade Hybrids supplied the transaxle, shifter, adapter kit, and a handful of other items. They even advised the customer about ways to complete certain tasks. So, this wasn’t a full-on shop build, but more like a collaboration between Renegade Hybrids and their customer, which is awesome. They don’t make Lamborghini swap kits, but wanted to help someone in need.
The transaxle mated to the LS3 is from a Porsche, most likely a G50 box, and the bellhousing adapter and mounts are all from Renegade Hybrids. One thing we do notice by looking at the photos of the engine nestled in there is that there is a lot of room for turbos, a supercharger, either centrifugal or roots-style, and anything else that can be thrown at an LS. Now, if we could just see some video of it under load, we’d be set. However, props to Renegade Hybrids and the owner of this unbelievably clean, impure Lamborghini Diablo. If you get any hate from other Lamborghini guys, disregard ’em; you still have one awesome ride.
