During the 1990’s, it would not be a stretch to say that GM and the Chevy Camaro/Pontiac Trans Am duo dominated the muscle car scene, in raw horsepower if not actual sales. The “Cast Iron King” LT1 engine was replaced by the LS1 in 1998, along with a slightly refreshed look, but despite the two cars being very similar, an engine swap isn’t as simple as you might think.
That left one early 4th Gen F-body owner with a conundrum. He eventually solved his problem with a Sawzall, and drew a clever little comic to explain how he did it, reports Jalopnik.
While the LT1 and LS1 4th-generation Camaros have a lot in common, the two engines require two different front clips, as it turns out. An LT1 hood can not be closed with an LS motor in the engine bay, even though the front clip is a direct swap. The stock airbox setup just doesn’t permit the hood to shut all the way. So what does Mickey Beggs do? As shown on the LS2 forums, he cut a big rectangular hole in the center of his hood. Lazy, yet effective.
But that’s not all. This guy then went on to draw a little cartoon in the style of memes common on the link-sharing website Reddit explaining the step-by-step process. We’re assuming that since you’re here on LSXMAG, you’re at least passingly familiar with the LOLCats-and-All-Your-Base-Are-Belong-To-Us world of internet memes – if not, the source of inspiration for all this would take us far too long to explain.
We’ll let the art speak for itself, but suffice to say we think this is a really neat find, and a nice reminder that we needn’t always take cars so seriously. Sometimes all we need is a bit of chalk and a sharp Sawzall blade.
