A couple of weeks ago, we reported that the Chevy Camaro would finally be getting a “refresh” for 2014, and that the updated 5th Gen will make its debut next Wednesday, March 27th, at the New York International Auto Show. This morning Chevy released this small teaser pic – a close up of the grille.
So what exactly can we tell from this teaser pic? Well, not a whole lot. The grille seems noticeably thinner, there’s no more honeycomb, and there is now a single chrome trim piece now running along the top. Maybe there are more dramatic changes elsewhere, (LS7 under the hood perhaps?) but we’ll just have to wait until the 25th to find out.
The Camaro has remained America’s favorite modern muscle car for the past three years even though the competitors have undergone multiple minor facelifts. Chevy seems to have been taking an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to the Camaro’s styling as sales stayed strong, but it will be nice to see a few new updates on the familiar platform.
Perhaps even more interesting than the teaser pic is this comment from Chevrolet in the press release.
“The new Camaro will be joined by the all-new Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet SS performance sedan, completing the line of new performance vehicles Chevrolet will offer for 2014.”
Wait – so no Holden based El Camino or Nomad? Sad day…
