Rumor has it that the 2016 Chevy Camaro will hit showrooms around America in mid-November, around the same time that the last 5th-gen Camaro rolls out of the Oshawa Assembly plant. As we draw nearer to that long-awaited day, GM is dribbling out even more details for their completely remade muscle car, with the latest news relating to accessories and performance parts for the sixth-gen Camaro.
This is one of the big ones we’ve been waiting for, so join us as we go down this list, one by one, starting with the performance exhaust kit.
Available only on V6 and V8 models, GM describes it as a means to “…enhance the performance sound of the Camaro and offer a premium appearance.” It’s a direct replacement for the factory exhaust and maintains the Camaro’s warranty, but it is not available with the dual-mode exhaust system, unfortunately. There’s also no mention of enhanced, ya know, performance.
However, the Brembo brake kit for the 2.0 liter turbo and 3.6 liter V6 models does improve stopping power with four-piston calipers. Vented and slotted Duralife rotors are a part of the package as well. Camaro SS owners will also get a Brembo brake package that includes bigger vented/slotted rotors and six-piston calipers up front.
The suspension lowering kit drops the Camaro about 0.8 inch, depending on the specific application, with kits tailored to LT, SS, hardtop, and convertible models. The lower center of gravity is designed to increase the feel of responsiveness, but SS owners opting for the MagnaRide suspension are unfortunately left out. The Camaro SS does get a performance air intake option that the other models do not, however.
Rounding it out are “stylish” engine covers that enhance nothing but how the motor looks when you pop the hood. We gotta be real with you guys and say that we detest this industry-wide trend of applying pointless plastic over the sexy mechanical bits, but it is what it is, we guess.
In addition to these “performance” parts, the 2016 Camaro will also offer customizable grille inserts, blade-style rear spoilers in ten different colors, four exterior graphics packages, and interior kits in multiple hues. And that’s just the stuff they’re debuting before SEMA 2015. We have a feeling they’re saving the best stuff for the big show.
