The first full season of the GM Performance Parts LSX Challenge race series comes to a close with the LSX Shootout at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana, and LSXtv will be bringing you same day coverage and videos all weekend long. The Shootout has proven in the past to be the biggest LSX drag racing event in the world, and this year’s race, as the culmination of a series championship chase for the first time, should be no exception.
Titles are up for grabs in three heads-up and two handicapped LS-only classes, and there are some extremely tight finishes in store. In JE Pistons LSX Drag Radial, just five points separate Michael Meeks and Mark Carlyle in their battle for first place, while Paul Falcon and Adam Preston are a mere 30 points apart in Holley EFI LSX Real Street.
Not only are the championships at stake this weekend – the Shootout is also where we’ve traditionally seen the top LS racers go for broke in search of bragging rights. We’ll go out on a limb and predict that records will fall, and by Sunday we will have seen the quickest and fastest LS runs in history for these cars.
Don’t forget that there’s a whole NMCA event running here this weekend too – for full coverage, check out our sister site StreetLegalTV.com. There will be periodic updates now through Sunday, so keep your browser pointed right here for all the fun and excitement!
We’d like to give special thanks to our event coverage sponsor, SCT Performance, for making it all possible. Check out their fine line of tuners at www.sctflash.com.
We’re about an hour away from the start of first round qualifying action here at Indy, and we’ve already had some drama in test & tune. Drag Radial racer Steve Fereday was making a hit in his twin turbo Firebird when some kind of transmission plumbing came loose and a fireball erupted.
We’re happy to report that Fereday got the car stopped and climbed out under his own power, apparently uninjured, and Mark Carlysle in the far lane was long gone and uninvolved.
