It was only a matter of time before a ZL1 finally popped up on eBay, but much to our surprise, the first one we’ve come across as of yet is actually listed with a reserve price that matches the cars MSRP. In this day and age of exorbitant dealer mark-ups on highly sought after models, you’re probably as shocked as we were to find a dealership who wasn’t tacking on a few extra grand. But, there is a catch to this scenario.
In the options department, this particular ZL1 features the 6-speed manual trans, Inferno Orange Metallic paint, the dark gray roof and rear decklid stripe package, the interior sueded microfiber package, and the super-cool exposed carbon fiber hood insert. Moran Chevrolet says in the listing that the ZL1’s reserve price is set at exactly MSRP for this car, which comes out to $58,824.
But this is eBay after all. Sure the reserve price is MSRP, but anyone who’s willing to spend that much is likely going to be willing to go the extra mile to secure the car for themselves, and will gladly pay a couple of hundred over MSRP. Just throw in a few other like-minded Camaro enthusiasts planning to do the same, and bingo – you’ve got yourself an instant bidding war. So, in the end the bidders are the ones that will ultimately cause the price of this ZL1 to shoot through the roof, while the dealership comes off looking like heroes for not tagging on a ridiculous mark up from the get-go. You’ve got to admit, it’s a pretty clever move.
