Rear mount turbos are one of those ideas that seem ideal in theory, but are often not so much in practice. They typically replace the muffler in the rear of the car, and all you are left to do is run your oil lines and some charge tubing back up to the throttle body… and presto, you’re pushing boost. (Well, obviously you’ll want to also upgrade the fuel system and do some tuning if you want your car to live longer than a day after the install.)
The particularly nasty sounding V6 Camaro featured in this video we discovered on YouTube reportedly has a rear mount turbo kit from a small shop out of Pinellas Park, Florida called Pete Stop Motor Company. The V6 backs right up to the door of the Pete Stop Shop like it’s a water box at the drag strip, and sets the rear tires ablaze to the soundtrack of the whirling turbo. We also get a bonus shot of the smoke show at the end of the video thanks to a GoPro that was mounted on the passenger side.
In the video caption, Pete Stop says that they sell the V6 5th Gen Camaro rear mount turbo kit for $5,000, or $5,500 installed. While you’re at Pete Stop you can also get your oil changed for $17.99 or rent a U-Haul for $19.95; now that’s what we call a full service shop!
