Autoholics found a rare gem on eBay, a mint 1978 AMC Pacer with only 9,000 original miles and a matching golf cart. As you are reading this you may believe that we are smoking something funny, but it is a badass Pacer. This is a prime example of a small car with Corvette engine – an LS7 to be specific.
Thanks to the LS7 this little Pacer, complete with wood-grain trim, runs low 10-second passes on pump gas. Everyone has had a run-in with fast VW Bug, but how many times have you ever seen a Pacer annihilate the car in the other lane? This car has has been a winner on Pinks All-Out and has even been featured in Hot Rod Magazine.
Much of the interior is original with the exception front carpet and Kirkey seats (which are covered in the original pattern of material). The color combination of beige and brown continues throughout the entire car and the golf cart. An eye-catching feature is the wooden shifter handle for the PowerGlide transmission.
When building a project like this one has to be resourceful to make everything work; for instance a set of Kooks headers designed for a Chevy TrailBlazer were used on this one. A Ford 9=inch rear-end with 4:30 gears and Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials handle the rear of car.
The sum of the parts and the creativity involved in making this drag strip terror should make the new owner incredibly happy. Oh yeah, and the matching golf cart doesn’t hurt either.
