[1]To be selected to compete in the annual Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational is a great honor. To do well at the event in a field full of amazingly talented drivers and premiere cars is an even greater one, and that is exactly what Dave Mikels did behind the wheel of the Lingenfelter Performance Engineering [3]L28 Camaro at this year’s event. While most of us will never have the honor of being selected for the Ultimate Street Car Invitational, we can get a little taste of what at least one of the legs of competition is like thanks to a video [4] recently uploaded by Lingenfelter.
The L28 Camaro [5] is Lingenfelter’s ultimate track car. Powered by a LS7 engine which pushes 681 horsepower and 588 pound-feet of torque, and sporting performance upgrades like 6-piston Brembo Brakes and a LPE/Pedders SportsRyder Supercar Coil-over Suspension package, this bad boy was made to be thrashed and still come out standing.
[6] In the video you can see the L28 Camaro in action during the Wilwood Disc Brake Speed Stop Challenge, one of the competitions at the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. Shot from inside the car, the video takes you through three runs, the best of which is done in just 7.394 seconds. Unfortunately, Mikels ended up tapping the cones at the stop point on the fastest run, causing his best time within the rules to be a 7.829 seconds.
Although still a considerably fast time, the stiff competition pushed Mikels and the Lingenfelter L28 Camaro into 18th place for the Speed Stop Challenge. The placement for this event, along with their 9th place position in the Road Course competition and 30th place in the Autocross competition ended up putting the Lingenfelter Camaro in 18th place overall. Not a bad run among 52 competitors for the recently built Camaro.
