We all fell in love with the Hot Wheels Concept Camaro that debuted at SEMA this year. Although the car definitely had some exaggerated features and a color scheme that most people would not choose for their own car, the Hot Wheels Camaro brought to life the favorite childhood toy of many. Just the same, the concept Camaro also brought about a lot of questions, so Phil Zak, Design Director for Chevrolet, and Felix Holst, Vice President of Design for Hot Wheels, took a couple minutes to answer some of the most popular queries. Check out the questions and answers in the YouTube video above.
As we reported from SEMA, the Hot Wheels Camaro was a major hit. With extra attention to detail, the car was created to inspire Camaro owners to modify their own cars by showing them that the sky is the limit when it comes to customization ideas. We fell in love with the car, as did many others, inspiring a slew of questions to pour into both GM and Hot Wheels.
Hot Wheels enthusiasts wanted to know where the design idea for the Camaro concept came from, why the car was painted in its unique metallic green color and what inspired the unique hood detail. Others wanted to know what the designers’ reaction to the finished car was and their favorite part of the concept vehicle. As it turns out, the answers to all of those questions comes down to the history that Camaro and Hot Wheels share, and the details that make both brands so unique.
While we don’t know if there will be another Hot Wheels concept at SEMA next year, we are hopeful that Chevrolet and Hot Wheels will collaborate on more projects in the future. According to Zak and Holst, our hopes may come true.
