Official Chevy Performance Video of COPO Camaro’s First Runs

A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege of bringing you the rough footage of the Chevrolet COPO Camaro Concept making its very first runs [1] down the drag strip at Bradenton Motorsports Park, down in Florida. Now we have Chevrolet Performance’s official video documenting the COPO’s inaugural runs [2], with interviews from the COPO Team giving us their insights on the car, and what this project could mean for the future.

As you remember from our coverage [1], the COPO reportedly ran a blazing best time of 9.69 at 140 MPH with the supercharged 327 cubic inch LSX engine. It was also reported that the Chevrolet Performance team was swapping in the naturally aspirated 427 LSX mill for more testing. This video confirms that they did swap in the 427, but unfortunately they don’t fill us in on what kind of times the COPO Camaro ran with the bigger motor.

Cliff Cohen, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Performance Parts, leaves us with these thoughts: “I’m very proud to be able to tell you that the vehicle met or exceeded every expectation that we had over the last three years to get to this point today. The vehicle went down the track, it turned the times we thought it would, and we are leaving today very, very satisfied.”

Also, don’t forget that COPO Camaro is still just a concept at this point. If you want to help us make this beast a reality, go to GMPerformanceParts.com [3], and get on the COPO Camaro mailing list to show your support for this project.
