Video: LS3 Swapped 10-Second 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Let the swap begin.

Let the swap begin.

Even after almost two decades, GM F-body cars like this ’02 Firebird Trans Am for example, are still extremely popular platforms for enthusiasts to modify. The car we’re sharing with you today of course, is from YouTube user yoshigalindo06. In the video above, he takes us from start to finish on his highly modified LS3 swapped ’02 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

A lot of work has been performed on this individuals Trans Am. First, the original 5.7 liter LS1 V8 has been removed, being replaced by a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 which has been bored and stroked to 4.08 by 4.00-inches. The original crankshaft has been replaced in favor of a forged steel Callies Compstar 4.00-inch stroker crankshaft, and the connecting rods have also been replaced with Callies Compstar forged H-beam rods. Diamond forged pistons handle all of the compression needs, which is fed the air and fuel mixture from the Fast LSXR 102MM Intake Manifold through a matching PTM 102mm throttle body.

Not only does the FAST LSXR intake

It’s the small touches like the Fast LSXR intake manifold and the “Pontiac” wording on the valve cover that we really like so much about this particular build.

Some other modifications include a custom ground camshaft and stage 2 ported CNC heads which were milled to 67cc, which allows for an even 12.0:1 compression ratio. And it doesn’t stop there: they’ve upgraded almost everything possible. From the brakes, the drivetrain, and the suspension, it seems like the only thing left stock was the factory T56 transmission. The combination is good for 525 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque at the rear tires from the quick camera view of the dyno computer on the video. It’s been down the quarter-mile as fast as 10.89 at 126.8 mph, not bad for at all for a naturally aspirated street car.

As we stated above, this individual has a lot done to their Firebird. If you’d like more information on this build, we recommend checking out the video for yourself. In the description, you can find the entire parts list, and a few dyno pulls and drag races.
