Conrad Grunewald and the Hankook Tires Camaro were at it again this past weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, blazing up the rear tires in Round Six of the Formula Drift series. Thanks to this great video put together by LaboratorySeventeen, we get an inside look at the action.
Grunewald handily beat out teammate Matt Walden in their top 32 pairing, and went on to pit the Hankook Camaro against Ken Gushi’s rear-wheel-drive Scion TC in the top 16. On his first run against Gushi, Grunewald really unleashed the LS7 and produced some very impressive angles throughout the run. However Gushi anticipated Grunewald’s moves, and did a decent job of keeping up with the Camaro. On the second run Gushi was in the lead, and took the Scion on a very wide line into the first clipping point. Grunewald saw the opportunity to pass Gushi on the inside and went for it.
Grunewald tells us, “I decided to pass him. It was kind of a spur of the moment move. He left a little more than a car width at the apex, and I just went for it.” Unfortunately the judges ruled Grunewald’s bold move as an “illegal pass,” and awarded the round to Gushi.
Even though he was eliminated in the top 16, Grunewald was still very upbeat, telling us, “The car performed great. The GM Performance Parts LS7 just murdered it out there this weekend. We even got the highest entry speed during qualifying out of the LS7.”
