Germany is known the word over for their commitment to environmentalism and conservation. In fact, over in Deutschland, it’s pretty much illegal to throw any item in the garbage that is made of a recyclable material. So what does the country that is that committed to conserving the planet think of the “anti-Prius” – America’s thumping V8 equipped Camaro?

Turns out, they love it…

This review video of the V8 Camaro (not referred to as the “SS” in Germany for obvious reasons) done by “Drive It!”, is produced by the international German broadcasting station Deutsche Welle, and is presented in English. In the review Deutsche Welle drives both a coupe and convertible V8 Camaro that they say is the “Euro-Spec” version that is just now starting to make its way to the European market.

To get the details on the Euro-Spec Camaro, Deutsche Welle spoke with Steffen Raschig, of Chevrolet Europe. Raschig tells Deutsche Welle that the Camaro has a great performance to price value, because no one else in Europe offers a car with over 400 horsepower for less than 40,000 Euros. The only specific detail that we are given on what makes the European version different from the US version is that it has a “special suspension”, though Raschig is very sure to tell Deutsche Welle that the V8 Camaros with automatic transmissions come equipped with Active Fuel Management that can switch off as many as four of the V8’s cylinders to improve the gas mileage, and keep the environmentalists at bay – no surprise to anyone who’s familiar with the L99, of course, but it’s still good to see they don’t think we’re intentionally drowning polar bears or anything…
