Video: Barrett-Jackson Auctions First LSX454R for $67,000

[1]

When we first revealed GMPP’s new LSX454R, it was, as you could imagine, huge news. Priced at around $11,625 retail, the monstrous 13.1:1 compression LS plant features 6-bolt all-aluminum LSX heads atop a 6-bolt main aluminum block, and erupts with an impressive 720 horsepower and 720 pound-feet of torque.

Built solely for race purposes, the first ever LSX454R was auctioned off yesterday at Barrett-Jackson [2] in Scottsdale, AZ, with all the proceeds going to the American Heart Association. With such a worthy cause and so much horsepower on the table, it was no wonder the motor sold for SIX TIMES its retail value at 67,000.

Restricted to 110-octane fuel thanks to its high compression, the LSX454R isn’t meant for you restomod guys wanting to drop in some late-model horsepower into your classic ride. Nope, this is for the serious racer, and its weight, construction and output speak of that. Of course, we’d trip all over ourselves if a non-race version of the LSX454R started popping up in production cars, but we won’t go holding our breath.
