You all know the old analogy by now–the engine is essentially a giant air pump that moves air in, burns its oxygen, and then blows it out. Anything to help that process along is going to improve horsepower, torque, and potentially even the mile-per-gallon efficiency.
To enhance all three of those traits in the 6.2L Camaro, Airaid has introduced its cold air intake kit (p/n 250-243), now available to the public. This particular model goes in the 2010-13 model year with the LS3, and with this handy video tutorial above, we get to see just how simple and easy the install goes.
Included in the kit are the roto-molded complete air box, roto-molded air intake tube, 1300cfm reusable air filter, six-inch velocity stack, silicone hump hose, silicone coupler, and blade-style weatherstrip, as well as the hardware with bolts and hose clamps.
Removal requires taking off the crankcase breather line, throttle body hose clamp, MAF sensor, and air box. In its place go the new AIRAID parts, which are installed using nothing more technical than a screwdriver and socket wrench. The last step involves the weatherstrip, which should have its flap point outward to let it seal against the hood. The MAF sensor is transferred to the new Airaid system.
Airaid says owners should expect gains of 16 horsepower and 13 lb-ft. of torque. On top of the additional power there’s the sound that comes from having removed the resonators and other restrictors that dampen underhood sound. Suffice it to say, the LS3 is sounding noticeably more powerful and intimidating than before.
