Turn One Helps Point Your 5th Gen Camaro in the Right Direction

Your power steering pump isn’t something you probably spend a lot of time thinking about – unless it stops working, it’s not a component that commands a lot of your attention. Turn One wants to change that, though. They’ve developed a direct bolt in replacement for the 5th Gen Camaro’s power steering pump that offers some significant advantages.

“Most enthusiasts don’t realize that their power steering system is affected by larger tires, increased wheel offsets, aggressive suspension setups, and running the system at high RPM for extended periods of time,” explains Turn One’s Jeff Roethlisberger. “These all have a negative impact on the factory power steering system. High performance driving results in the factory pump being overheated, boiling of fluid, or catastrophic pump failure.”

For modified late model Camaros, there’s an additional potential pump killer as well. “In applications where a supercharger is used, the factory pump cannot handle the belt load, causing the pump to fail prematurely,” Roethlisberger adds.

Turn One’s 5th Gen Camaro pump is designed specifically for high performance use, and is made in the USA with 100 percent new components. Because the pump is more efficient than stock models, Turn One says that theirs will draw as much as three horsepower less – an added benefit when every pony counts. “We build our pumps to reduce horsepower consumption, reduce fluid temperatures, and to withstand the high wheel loads of track environments,” says Roethlisberger. He also points out that the improved driveshaft design of the Turn One pump is specifically engineered to cope with high belt tension for supercharged applications.

t40rbz28-1GRThe Turn One pump has a lightweight aluminum housing with an integral reservoir complete with cap, and comes pre-set to 1,500 PSI, though other settings are available upon request. Stock GM hose connections are standard, making it a true bolt-in upgrade, but Turn One can also provide a pump for your Camaro with optional AN-6 inlet and outlet fittings for custom setups, and they offer an optional billet aluminum pulley (shown in the photos) as well.

A power steering pump failure can put an untimely end to a track day, not to mention the fact it will make the drive home a lot less pleasant. For any high performance 5th Gen Camaro, Turn One’s high performance pump will help ensure you’re always headed in the right direction.
