Turbo LSX Trans Am is Built to Win

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last ten years, you’ve probably noticed that fourth generation F-bodies are quite a popular platform when it comes to getting down the drag strip. Not only are these cars easy on the wallet when compared to other race platforms, but they also respond to modification in a quite exciting way and the options are nearly limitless.

We’d say that the car lives up to its tags.

Now, many of us have experienced the feeling of our car not being “enough.” Usually, our refuge usually comes in the form of some headers, a cam, or maybe some forced induction for those who want to go big. Bryan Luna’s case was a bit different, though. When he originally purchased his WS6 Trans Am the car was making over 1000 horsepower. The current setup was maxed out and Bryan had a thirst for more, and besides you could say that the broken crank wasn’t exactly helping the current setup’s cause anyway.

Bryan decided that he wanted to take the car in a new direction. The setup would all start with an LSX block from Halston Harrist at H Squared Racing Engines. With a little fabrication help from Tiago Salies and Sebastian Robles of Force Fed Fabrications a Garrett GT55-94 turbo would provide a little bit of extra giddy-up for the new engine.

Got Boost?

Got Boost?

After being assembled by Bryan, Tiago, and Travis Thompson, then tuned by Chris Delgado of D3 Performance Engineering, the F-body would go to make a tad over 1200 horsepower through a 4L80 transmission on a modest 30 pounds of boost. With the turbo not yet reaching its full potential, we’re excited to see what will happen when Bryan decides he wants to turn up the heat again. The Trans Am currently sits in the 8-second range and it seems as if the sky is the limit!
