A pair of would-be thieves from California gave new meaning to the phrase “stealership” when they attempted to abscond with a brand new Chevrolet Camaro SS while out on a test drive. It’s hardly the most original plan out there, and it should come as no surprise that the pair didn’t make it too far before police caught up and put them both in cuffs. It was a bold move to be sure, but it definitely didn’t pay off.
CBS Sacramento reports that 37-year-old Shane Woodcook and 33-year-old Shawna McLemore stand accused of attempting to rip off a Vacaville Chevy dealership. The pair didn’t get too far though, as their plan wasn’t thought out too far past “steal fast car and drive away.”
Woodcook and McLemore allegedly showed up later in the day to check out a white Camaro SS, going on a test drive with a salesmen after convincing him they were serious buyers. This led all three to a Wells Fargo bank to take out a deposit, when McLemore excused herself back to the car to get some water. Woodcook followed soon after, claiming to have left behind his wallet, raising the suspicion of the salesmen, who followed the two out.
That’s where he found Woodcook and McLemore in the Camaro, and after Woodcook claimed he had a gun, he peeled out and took off, leaving the salesman to call the police. Because the Camaro is such a stand-out car (especially in white), police quickly spotted the two, who bailed out of the muscle car in a residential neighborhood in an attempt to escape. However, K9 dogs tracked both alleged thieves down, and they now face a multitude of charges.
Maybe next time, they should just rent a Camaro instead?
