Another tease was dropped this week by Chevrolet about the new Camaro, and it’s a significant one. Of course we’ve seen spy shots of the car with the camouflage, but now we finally get our first dose of how the Camaro will look without any… in the rear, at least.
Chevrolet claims that the exterior design vocabulary is defined by complex shapes, and we’re starting to see that more and more. The hood, for example, is comprised of smooth curves that are separated by sharp creases. Chevrolet is right when they say the hood looks as if it’s shrink-wrapped around the engine. Also, enthusiasts will be happy to know that the dramatic rear fenders that we’ve come to know and love on the Gen 5 Camaro are here to stay on the Gen 6 Camaro. With all of the subtle and sharp changes made to the design, Chevrolet claims that the 2016 Camaro will visually look lower and wider than its predecessor.
“The Camaro went to the gym and came out with a lithe, more athletic physique for the sixth generation,” said Ed Welburn, vice president, GM Global Design. “It’s a more expressive evolution of the Camaro’s iconic character – and one that complements its leaner size and sharper reflexes.”
We’re ecstatic to see the new Camaro in full production attire when Chevrolet debuts it on Saturday, May 16th, at a special public event at Detroit’s Bell Isle Park. We’re also excited to see what other variants of the car will look like and what kind of power they’ll be making. May should be an exciting month. Stay tuned for more updates!
