Swedish Camaro Cup Coming to the USA

We brought you a story this past spring about the popular Swedish Camaro Cup [3], that Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen would be participating in. Now according to Camaro5 [4], rather than having Americans go to them for the Camaro Cup races, the Swedes are bringing the Camaro Cup to our shores. There will be two Camaro Cup races in 2012, held at Sebring International Raceway on February 10th, 11th, and 12th, and at Palm Beach International Raceway on February 17th, 18th, and 19th.

All of the Swedish Camaro Cup cars ride on suspensions developed by Howe Racing in Michigan, and are powered by GMPP ZZ4 small blocks pumping out about 445 HP, connected to a Richmond T-10 4-speed transmission, rather than a showroom spec LSX and a 6-speed. The cars’ bodies are fiberglass replicas of the 5th gen, and the newest cars feature ABS plastic front ends for easier fixes over the old fiberglass front ends. Six piston front, and four piston rear Wilwood brakes provide stopping power, and Michelin slicks keep the Camaro Cup Cars glued to the track. All in all, very cool race cars, but they are 5th gens in appearance only.

Hopefully, these two events might spark enough interest to create an American Camaro Cup to call our own. We don’t know about you guys, but we would rather see full bodied 5th gens with LS3’s doing this type of racing in their own cup series; some real “Stock Car” racing.
