LS swap mania continues; it seems as if the LS engines are capable of being a dominant force in all aspects of racing. In the case of a group of Norwegian hillclimbers, these guys elected to power their rig with a nasty-sounding LS3 engine. A YouTube video highlights the first firing of the LS3, which sounds like it has been treated to a few performance enhancements. At idle, the engine sounds like a nice lopey cam has been installed, but is difficult to determine all of the goodies used thanks to the language barrier. These guys are building the LS3 powered monster to compete in the Formula Offroad Extreme Hillclimb in Norway.
Once the LS3 was installed, the guys prepare to dyno the car to get an accurate reading of the horsepower and possibly do a little fine tuning to squeeze out as much power as possible. The guys begin recording another video as they dyno the hillclimbing machine and as they go through the gears all seems to well; but once they get into the power to get a good read, things go wrong. While the LS3 roars on the dyno, metal begins to shootout from underneath the car sending the spectators scrambling to avoid the shrapnel. Finally the car stops and the cameraman is able to document the death of the transfer case.
If you want to know what kind of motorsport they’re building this for, have a look at the following video and try to imagine what a cast-iron pair you would have to have to try this for the first time…
