While we love our modern LSX cars around here, we can’t help but grin when we get word of a classic muscle car tapping into the power of an LS engine. With an LS swap into a muscle car, you not only get great classic styling, you also get the performance and power of a modern sports car. One of D&P Classic Chevy’s latest creations proves just that, taking a ’66 Chevelle convertible from ordinary to extraordinary.
Built for a collector in Las Vegas, the Chevelle was treated to a complete frame-off restoration and modernization by D&P. The GM Performance LS7 fuel injected engine chosen for the car was topped with a Magnusson Supercharger, pushing the horsepower upwards to an estimated 630 at the crank.
An LS7 swap wouldn’t be complete without other modern upgrades, so D&P also equipped the Chevelle with a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed transmission, 12-bolt Posi-Traction rear end, Global West suspension components and 4-wheel disc brakes. Other creature comforts the car received were a leather interior, quick ratio power steering and vintage air conditioning.
Painted in Corvette Millennium Yellow with a cream rag top, the Chevelle is “extremely fast and pulls like a freight train through the gears,” according to GM Performance Parts’ Facebook page. The car is truly an amazing looking ride and we hope to get the chance to see it in person some day.
