Seriously, how long have we been looking for a V8 powered, rear-wheel-drive 4-door from GM? Rumors about the return of an American “Power Sedan” based on the Holden Commodore and riding on the Zeta Platform have been circling for literally years, with only minimal indications that they might actually become reality. That is, until recently.
Our friends over at autoblog recently posted this rendering of what they simply call the “SS.” They are basing their speculation that we might be getting a civilian version of the Caprice PPV on the fact that GM recently patented the “SS” moniker (even though they’ve been using it since the late ‘60’s). Add in the fact GM recently announced they will be introducing an all-new nameplate as their NASCAR entry, and suddenly the long-churned rumors start to sound more realistic. As autoblog points out, if the “SS” does come to life, there is a very good chance it would be powered by the same 355 horsepower 6.0L V8 in the Caprice PPV, with a the 3.6L V6 as a more budget and gas-mileage friendly option – if you’re into that sort of thing.
It all sounds so promising, but we still aren’t getting our hopes up. Even the Caprice PPV has had some significant troubles getting off the assembly line. However, if the “SS” should ever make it to dealership lots, we’ll take two…
