General Motors‘ premier luxury brand has been on a roll for the better part of a decade, and this latest crop of big news serves to show that there’s no sign of slowing down. Following last week’s announcement that the automaker would move from Detroit to New York City, we’ve now received word that there will be a brand new top-of-the-line model (called the “C6”) by 2016.
As of yet, GM is staying tight-lipped about exact details, but that didn’t stop us from pondering which of the recent concept cars would most likely become king of the Cadillacs. Fortunately, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen was able to drop a hint or two: “The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars,” he said. “Currently in development, this new rear wheel drive-oriented sedan uses completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture.”
So here is our short list: the Ciel, the Urban Luxury, and the Elmiraj. These three cars are currently featured under Cadillac’s “Concepts” section of the website.
However, since this is a halo model we’re talking about, ruling out the Urban Luxury seems fair to do; no self-respecting white collar worker wants to be seen in SmartCar equivalent, after all. Unless he’s the owner/founder of SmartCar, in which case, he has our pity.
This leaves us with the Ciel and Elmiraj, both incredibly striking and stylish cars that evoke as much class as a Russian ballet performance. The Elmiraj is as amazing of a coupe as we’ve ever seen from the highly artistic minds at Cadillac, while the Ciel (French for “sky”) captures the imagination as an elegant vessel that could just as easily draw the masses to showrooms across the nation.
Are you as conflicted as we are about these cars? Or do you have a definite favorite? Post your suggestion for what you think will be the next Caddy treasure.
