With deliveries of the supercar-killing Camaro ZL1 set to begin in just a few weeks, we are sure there are plenty of eager Bowtie fans just waiting for a chance to get behind the wheel of their very own ultimate Camaro. The Camaro ZL1 was announced over a year ago, and we know there are a lot of people who have been on the order list since day one.

So they will be upset to hear (just as we were) that Camaro ZL1 deliveries are being delayed due to a “potential quality issue.” Autoblog obtained a letter intended for Chevy dealerships that lays out the situation, while providing no details on what this concern is.

That’s why we reached out to Monte Doran, Chevy’s Communications Director. He told us that it was neither a safety nor performance issue, but a quality issue, while declining to elaborate further. Mr. Doran did say that GM obviously wants to get cars to their customers.

This could some something as simple as sub-par interior trim, or as major as a manual transmission issue, as was the case with the Ford Mustang. While we totally understand GM wanting to keep a neutral “spin” on what could very well be a non-issue, we can’t help but feel a little transparency might go a long ways.

We’re big kids GM; we can handle the news. More importantly, we could give you credit for doing the right thing. Thumbs up for wanting to make sure that every ZL1 that gets into a customer’s hands is as good as it possibly can be, but in this case, letting our imaginations fill in the blanks may not be the best strategy…
