The old saying used to go, “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday.” Of course, this pertained to a time when the cars on the racetrack were the same cars you could buy in the showroom. These days, NASCAR and NHRA have little in common with vehicles bearing the same name at your local dealership, but other racing series like the American Le Mans make good use of production-based racers. Two Corvettes recently snatched the first-place finish at the last race of the 2010 ALMS season.
To celebrate this special victory, after a particularly hard season, GM put out a special advertisement in USA, reports Corvette Blogger.
As we have been reporting all during the ALMS season, Corvette Racing has had a hell of a time trying to get on the leaderboards. While they have had a few podium finishes, the first-place finish at Petit LeMans was their first outright victory all season. It came during the very last lap, when the leading Ferrari ran out of fuel, allowing the No. 4 car of Gavin Beretta and Jan Magnussen to steal the win from right under Ferrari’s nose.
The advertisement, which appeared in the October 8th edition of USA Today, reads as follows;
The racetrack is the ultimate test lab for Chevrolet technology.
Congratulations to Corvette Racing and Compuware Corvette
No. 4 drivers Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen and Emmanuel Collard.
After 9+ hours covering 902 miles, you proved once again
it’s not where you start. It’s where you finish.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Congratulations to Corvette Racing on a superb first-place finish, and we wish them lots of luck in the 2011 season.
