There has been much press made about the Cool TV Camaro’s crash during the Grand-am event at Road America this past weekend. By now most people have probably seen the clip and photographers photos. But what people don’t know is that the Camaro had not only onboard video but also telemetry recording during the accident.
The scary accident happened when a brake malfunction occurred on Gunter Schaldach’s Cool TV Camaro entering turn one, one of the fastest corners on the course. Unfortunately for Joe Foster he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Schaldach slammed into the back of Foster’s Mazda and the both went careening into the tire barrier at the entrance of turn one.
The onboard video is pretty impressive, but what’s even more is the telemetry. According to the telemetry the car experienced 3.2G’s when he slammed into the back of foster at 136 MPH. Schaldach then cruised across the gravel trap still carrying over 110 mph when he hit the tire barrier and experienced another 4.3G’s. When he finally came back down to earth the car landed sending another 2 G’s through his body. Its absolutely incredible that both these driver’s survived this scary accident.
