NMCA Gears Up For The 5th Annual GMPP LSX Shootout

As the even season draws to a close, the NMCA is gearing up for the fifth annual GM Performance Parts LSX Shootout on October 6th through 9th.  This three-day event is held in conjunction with the NMCA World Finals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.  During the course of these three days, LS-powered vehicles will converge upon the raceway for some of the fastest heads-up drag racing to date, along with a multitude of awe-inspiring LS-powered show cars. Over $50,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs during this high-octane October weekend and with vast number of sponsors on board it should be a mandatory requirement for anyone with LS-powered ride. Being the final event for the LSX Shootout series, the competition will be fierce with the championships for each class on the line.

For those who eat, breath and sleep drag racing, this year’s shootout will feature three heavy-hitting heads-up classes and a few special additions as well. JE Pistons has signed on as the sponsor for the LSX Drag Radial class, featuring some LS-powered rides determined to test the traction limits of drag radials.  The ERL Performance All Motor Class is guaranteed to delight all in attendance, as racers and their crews attempt to squeeze every last drop of power out their power-adder-free LS-engines. These engines will stroked and stretched to their limits to create insane horsepower and torque, and with money, bragging rights and a championship on the line the competition will be ferocious. The Holley EFI Real Street Class makes up the third and final true heads-up class, allowing power-adders and a maximum of 480 cubic inches. With the amount of room to create ridiculous power, the only true limitation is tire size: a true 10.5 slick or a DOT 275 drag radial tire.

For fans and racers of the 5th generation Camaro, this year’s LSX Shootout will play host to a couple of 5th generation only events. The Camaro Performers Magazine 5th Gen Camaro Challenge is an index class open to 2010 and newer Camaros equipped with the LS engine or the LLT engines. Out of this class the four fastest 5th generation Camaros will be offered the opportunity to compete in the GM High-Tech Performance 5th Generation Camaro Shootout. The four Camaros will compete in a heads-up format for $250, a jacket and a bonus prize from GM Performance Products; with some great rewards for the win and the bragging rights of having the “World’s Fastest 2010 Camaro” the action is sure be intense.

For the 2011 LSX Shootout, drivers of LS-powered vehicles will have to chance to race in the Proform Racing LSX Rumble Class and/or the TREMEC LSX True Street Challenge. Those taking part in the Proform Racing LSX Rumble Class will have the chance to pick their index and line-up against some of the fastest cars in the US. As an added benefit, participants in the LSX Rumble Class and the 5th Generation Camaro Challenge will be able to compete in Saturday’s TREMEC LSX True Street Challenge for no additional fee. Like the name says, True Street means true street cars; these cars must be licensed, insured, able to endure a thirty-mile cruise and then make 3 back-to-back drag strip passes. The winner of the TREMEC LSX True Street Challenge will receive $250, a huge 6-foot trophy, a winner’s jacket  (thanks to GMPP and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center) and a GM Performance Parts LSX Bow-Tie Block.

Along with participating the numerous drag racing classes, a series of cash rewards and prizes will be presented by GM Performance Parts to individual makes and models as part of the World’s Fastest LS Challenge. As racers make passes GMPP will be taking notes to see who has the fastest Truck/SUV, Corvette, Firebird/TransAm, Camaro, G8, GTO or Cadillac, and will be rewarding their owners. Winners will receive $250 and a LSX Shootout winner’s jacket for having the fastest model. An additional $250 will be available to those utilizing a GMPP LSX Bow-Tie Block. The TREMEC True Street Challenge will only run on Saturday, leaving Sunday open for hardcore drag race action.

For those wanting to show off their LS-powered vehicles, the 5th Annual LSX Shootout offers an enormous two-day car show with over fifty awards up for grabs. Saturday’s awards include: Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Body and Paint, Best Detail, Best of Show and many more. Part of the car show will be subject to the people’s choice judging, but the NMCA be responsible for selecting twenty recipients for special recognition awards independent of the people’s choice judging.  On Sunday the LSX Shootout Car Show continues with vehicle-specific awards. In each category two awards will be handed out; Winner and Outstanding Achievement for each individual class. Sunday’s categories include: Cadillac, the Camaro5.com 5th Gen Camaro, 4th Gen Camaro, Corvette, Firebird/TransAm, GTO, Truck/SUV, V6 GM, Best LSX of Show.  The winner of the Sunday Best LSX of Show will receive an award and a winners jacket. For those vehicles that do not fit into the above-mentioned classes the Open LSX category gives LS-powered vehicles the chance to be seen and judged.

Additionally, the 2011 GM Performance Parts LSX Shootout will host the annual Thursday night Early Bird Participant Party. This get-together features raffle with over $10,000 in give-away prizes, free drinks (sodas, beer and wine), appetizers, BBQ and music. Everyone who attends the GM Performance Parts LSX Shootout Early Bird Participant Party will receive a complimentary raffle ticket for one of many parts prizes.  Many of raffle prizes are donated by sponsors and manufacturers taking part in the Manufacturers’ Midway; for those not fortunate enough take home a free prize, bring a credit card or loads of cash and enjoy the shopping experience at the midway. Again, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center we serve as the host dealer for the 2011 event.
