Consider this a cautionary tale. While nitrous oxide is probably the easiest power-adder to successfully install, and is very safe when used as directed, not everyone has the same personal standards when it comes to installation. Case in point – watch the following video (which we came across on LS1Tech.com) and see if you can count the many, many ways you might have improved this particular setup had you done the work yourself…
Some of our personal highlights:
- 0:06 – Pan down reveals at least five “Little Tree” air fresheners hanging from the rear-view, a la that scene in “Se7en”
- 0:11 – Nitrous line runs across the driver’s lap
- 1:08 – Dual lighted purge nozzles poking through holes crudely hacked in the grille
- 1:26 – This is the money shot, when the true horror is revealed beneath the hood… Braided stainless and loose wire everywhere
- 1:57 – Wet nozzle JB-Welded in to the intake, slightly off-axis
- 2:14 – Window switch attached to the handle on top of the battery with zip ties
The sad part is that he’s got all the hardware to do it right – it’s just the execution that is awful (and dangerous). We’ve only seen this kind of hack job nitrous install once before, and that was on a rental car. So remember kids: Nitrous oxide is for grownups, so if you want to spray, be sure to ask an adult to check your work first.
