E85 fueling provides an excellent alternative for enthusiasts with big-power vehicles that don’t want the hassle or expense of fueling up with high-octane race fuel. It’s available from the pump in many areas and provides an excellent octane rating. The team at Vector Motorsports has developed their Super-Flex fuel system that’s designed for dual-application use.
Official Release:
VMS has been tuning E85 conversions for quite some time on many late model GM vehicles from Gen 4 F-bodies to supercharged trucks and everything in between, with excellent results.
Vector Motorsports’ new Super-Flex system is a fuel system designed for the use of both E85 and premium unleaded fuels. Very similar to the factory produced “Flex-Fuel” vehicles on the road today – but now your ZL1 Camaro can run on E85.
The high octane rating for E85 and the cooling effect it has on the intake charge makes it great for high compression engines or combo’s with forced induction such as superchargers or turbos. We have installed this system on a stock Pontiac G8 L76 with a cold air intake system and picked up 18 rwhp naturally aspirated! While that may not seem like a huge gain, consider the price of premium unleaded compared the E85. A typical price in the summer months for E85 ranges about $3.29 per gallon, and you can pull up to the pump to get it. A modified Cadillac CTSV (13 lbs boost, cam and headers) made an additional 70+ rwhp over 93 octane unleaded!
This system is being continuously developed for a variety of 2008 to present GM cars and trucks. Currently systems available are for Cadillac CTSV, Pontiac G8, Chevy Trailblazer SS, and Camaro including ZL1. Systems are being installed and tuned in house at this time but look for the VMS PowerCal Remote Tuning systems and Super-Flex kits available for mail order in the future.
