Those classic GM A-body muscle cars – such as the Chevelle and GTO – are kings in the muscle car world, but those looking for modern performance may desire swapping in the smaller LS series engine. An LS swap in a classic GM A-body car is no longer a daunting task with Trans Dapt‘s LS Swap-in-a-Box kits. Check out the official release.
Official Release:
GM’s powerful and lightweight LS series of engines have long been a desirable option for those looking to give its classic car modern power and performance. The LS-series of engine has a lot going for it with its modern materials, excellent power potential, and small size. Swapping an LS engine into a classic A-body may have once been a daunting prospect because of all the fabrication involved, but this is no longer the case thanks to Trans-Dapt and its LS Swap-in-a-Box kits.
The GM A-Body platform underpinned many of the most iconic cars of the muscle car era. From the Chevrolet Chevelle to the Pontiac GTO, A-Body cars were the king of the street and strip. Fast forward 50 years and these cars are being enjoyed by a new generation of enthusiasts across the nation. But while their predecessors lusted after big blocks, this new generation is enamored with the light weight and monstrous power potential of GM’s LS family of engines. However swapping one of these modern powerhouses into a classic ride has previously been a challenge thanks to the oil sump of the LS engine being located on the opposite end of the motor from the one on its small block and big block predecessors. Finding headers that fit right without needing any “clearancing” was also a challenge. Trans-Dapt’s new LS Swap-in-a-Box kit addresses all of these issues thanks to the combined efforts of Hedman Hedders, Trans Dapt, and Hamburger’s Performance Products.
A set of Hedman LS-Swap Pro-Touring Mid-Length headers with 1 1/2-inch primaries and a 2 1/2-inch collector maximize exhaust flow while delivering additional ground clearance for lowered vehicles. These headers were designed alongside the included Trans-Dapt motor mounts to make bolting-in the LS-engine extremely easy and to ensure an exact fit. Lastly, the Hamburger’s LS-Swap Oil Pan negates the need to modify the factory crossmember as it relocates the sump with an extended pickup tube to match the location of the sump on classic small and big block engines. Hamburger’s also designed its oil pan with a lower profile than the stock LS pan to further enhance ground clearance. The oil pan features two integrated -10 AN fittings to make it easy to remotely mount your oil filter for added clearance and easy access.
Trans Dapt’s LS Swap-in-a-Box kit is available for 1964-1967 GM A-Body cars and is available with uncoated headers (Part# 45921) or with Hedman’s HTC Silver Ceramic Metallic coated headers (Part# 45922), and will soon be available in the new Black-Maxx Black Ceramic Finish. The kit comes with two header reducers, all mounting hardware, gaskets, and installation instructions.
