With the reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang, the news is dominated by the next-gen muscle car wearing a blue oval on its grille. Meanwhile, the 50th anniversary of the Chevy Camaro is still three years out, meaning a next-gen Chevy muscle car won’t be revealed for at least another couple of years. That hasn’t stopped photoshop artists from sketching their own version of the 6th generation Camaro though, and we expect renderings like these will become more common the closer we get to a reveal.
Over at GM Inside News, some new sixth-generation Camaro renderings done by a recent intern at General Motors have been revealed. While these aren’t anything official, we’re willing to look for any indication of the direction the next Camaro will go in. Do you like what you see?
We have to say, the edgy, futuristic styling feels right in place with our expectations of the world in 2017. It’s hard not to see styling influences from some European models, like the BMW i8 hybrid sports car, though GM has pledged not to give in to four-cylinder engines with the 5th gen Camaro’s successor. Other influences come from fighter jets, which have a strong “water line” as well as a muscular form, something the designer wanted to incorporate into his concept.
The overall look is like a futuristic fighter jet on four wheels, and it looks like it’d cost a premium price as well. With the 2015 Mustang adopting the corporate mug of other Ford vehicles, GM has a chance to really make the next Camaro stand out from the crowd. Hopefully the suits on high had a chance to look this concept over. Who knows – maybe a couple of years from now, we’ll look back on this concept with a knowing smile.
