Most racing teams have four to six months to prepare for the next season, leaving them plenty of time to design, build, and test their next-gen race cars. But Momentum Autosports of Lewisville, Texas, had just one month to build and prep not one, but two Camaro GT.Rs for the SCCA 2011 World Challenge season opener this weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida.
CamaroZ28 reports that not only did they manage to field these cars, but in their racing debut managed to place a very respectable 10th in both races. And we have a feeling it is only going to get better from here on out.
Momentum Autosports drivers Ardee Toppe and Alec Udell had just two days to shake their cars down in preparation for the season opener in Florida. Alec managed to qualify in third place, but we bet they wish they had a bit more time, as the line lock on Alec’s car released slowly, seriously cutting into the Camaro’s acceleration at the start. Caught mid-pack, his efforts were thwarted by a shock failure that sent the car back to the pits. But Ardee (who did not qualify as well) managed to sneak into 10th place and finish.
Alas, that race damage would come back to haunt them on the second day of racing, and while Alec was able to ride as high as third place before the damage forced him to retire while battling for the top spot. Ardee again finished 10th, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. We’re sure once Momentum is able to get a bit more practice in and work out the kinks in the cars, they’ll be a serious threat in World Challenge competition.
