Say what you want about restomodding, but it can have a very cleansing and beautifying effect on a lot of vehicles. Trucks like this Chevy 3100 were nothing more than utilitarian steel workhorses back in the day, but it takes a special kind of owner to want to see this piece of art come to life.

The Mecum auction in Austin, Texas, going on now through tomorrow, has 600 vehicles in its inventory set to cross the block at the Austin Convention Center. This sleek, Aston Martin gray-colored Chevy will be one of them, and will likely be a big hit with the bidders once it makes its entrance.

Taking the term “restomod” literally, this truck is a fusion of old-fashioned looks with new-fashioned technology. The former includes some body mods to the front end, hood, bumpers, and bed, while the latter is almost too long to list here (but we’ll try anyway).

Starting off, there’s the new chassis fitted with Corvette suspension front and rear, as well as a Corvette Z06 braking system. Under the hood, a sexy 500 horsepower LS3 courtesy of Hot Cams has been installed, and is mated to a 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission, which drivers can control with a Lokar shifter.

Inside, the plush red leather upholstery ticks the “luxury” checkbox, as does the Vintage Air A/C, touchscreen stereo, and chrome tilt steering column. The bed is a masterpiece in and of itself, using oak with a mahogany stain and polished stainless steel hardware and straps.

Rounding out the features are power steering, power brakes, a Dana 44 rearend, and custom Schott 18-inch front/20-inch rear wheels.
