We came this close to getting the El Camino back. At the last minute, GM pulled the plug not just on a G8 Ute, but Pontiac as a whole. Yet GM sells the Holden Commodore Ute under different names in many other countries, including South Africa.
LupiniPower, a South African tuner company, took the Chevy Ute SS and bumped it up to 535 horsepower and a stump-pullin’ 590 pound-feet of torque, reports CarScoop. They call it the SuperUte, and rightly so.
The SuperUte is a healthy 173 horsepower and 200 pound-feet more powerful than it came from the factory. This is accomplished by adding a supercharger to the 6.0 liter LS3 engine, giving it a top speed of 175 mph. It can get to 125 mph in just 15 seconds, and 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. The quarter-mile disappears in just 12.7 seconds. Ya, this is one fast truck.
Beyond the horsepower bump, LupiniPower also upgraded the suspension and braking system. You can even opt for a full Bilstein suspension and 20-inch wheels. The price isn’t even that outrageous, coming in at about $94,000 American, though to import one to the states will surely cost a price premium.
