The Texas Mile is one of those motorsports events where all of the trash talk and speculation gets laid to rest, and one simple number does all the talking for itself; your car’s top speed. And when the guys from Speedtek Performance took their Heidts equipped ’69 Camaro down the 5,280 feet of runway, its message was heard loud and clear – 195 miles per hour.
The Speedtek ’69 Camaro is equipped with a Kennie Bell Supercharged LSX engine that boasts 408 cubic inches of speed inducing displacement that is mated to a 6-speed double over drive manual transmission. To keep the car together and headed straight during their blasts down the Texas Mile, Speedtek trusted Heidts to provide their bolt in Pro-G subframe in the front, and bolt in 4-link rear suspension. In a recent blog post on their website, Heidits says that they believe that the Speedtek Camaro is currently the fastest car that has ever put their suspension to use – a pretty impressive claim.
All the more impressive is the fact that Speedtek and Heidts have managed to team up to create a 43 year old muscle car, with absolutely zero aerodynamic capabilities, and managed to create a rocket ship that can push it to just shy of 200 miles per hour. It’s a perfect example of how far modern technology has come, and just how far it can take your muscle car.
