It’s A New Record! 2010 Camaro Runs 7.70-Seconds In The 1/4-Mile

DSC_08771When it comes to what drives a racecar driver, not only is speed a factor, but the recognition of setting a record is high on the list. For George Farkouh, of Brooklyn, New York, his final round appearance at the NMCA event at Summit Motorsports Park was when he served notice that he was more than ready to run for the title in the upcoming final race of the year. The American Racing Headers/FARKS Supercars-sponsored 2010 Camaro sent shock waves through the Real Street Class by knocking out a pair of record-setting 7.70-second passes.

According to co-driver Louis Filippides, “Overall the weekend went very smooth. We knew the car had the potential to set the record, but we wanted to make sure that we did not hurt any parts during the event. At our last race in Joliet, Illinois, we blew a head gasket and started to pump water. We did not want a repeat performance of that experience. The weather was hot and humid in Ohio, and we worked around some rain that washed out the track Saturday night. Regardless, the NMCA track workers did a great job making sure the track was in good shape for the final day of racing.”

Farkouh had to come from behind during two separate rounds, to come out on top of the 8-car field. A red light start by opponent Tim Timmerman and his Firebird in the first round was followed by second round 7.75-second run by Farkouh as he chased down and passed the COPO Camaro of J.C. Beatty Jr. In the final round, Farkouh came from behind to pass and ultimately beat Jessie Coulter, the number two qualifier, by laying down the 7.70-second record-setting e.t.

“The win gives us a lot of confidence heading into the final race of the year,” concluded Filippides. “We were very happy to be in the winner’s circle. As long as we do our job on the starting line and we are able to dial in the timing like we did at Summit, I see no reason why we can’t earn the championship. If the track conditions are similar to what we experienced this weekend, I think our chances are pretty good.”

The final race of the season is the Holley LS Fest at Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where Farkouh and Coulter will square off to decide the season championship.
