Is This The Ultimate Bumblebee-Inspired Fifth-Gen Camaro?

Starting in 2007, General Motors threw its full weight behind Michael Bay’s Transformers movie series, providing most of the on-camera cars including the yellow Chevy Camaro named Bumblebee. Optimus Prime’s second-in-command has since lent his name to several limited edition versions of the fifth-generation Camaro which included a bright yellow exterior, but the people at Carlex Design apparently don’t think GM went far enough.

Unassuming on the outside…Uber Bumblebee on the inside.

While they left the outside of this yellow Camaro alone, the designers went absolutely bonkers with the black-and-yellow color scheme inside. Hey, if you’re gonna do it, there’s no reason to hold back.

It’s not like the fifth-generation Camaro is going to be remembered and celebrated for its superior interior quality. Even the C6 Corvette was regularly bashed for its cheap-looking-and-feeling cabin materials, so it isn’t like Carlex is painting over the Mona Lisa of automotive interiors. That really leaves them free to just go nuts, though some features are arguably take-it-or-leave-it.

For example, we actually like the bright yellow dashpad compared to the stock GM dark grey/blackish corporate covering that is just kinda…there. Same with the chest-level trim, as it helps to highlight features inside the car that otherwise blend into the background.

The choice of using mostly yellow on the seats, however, is probably a more polarizing subject. Black with yellow accents/stitching might have helped tone down the glaringly cheerful cabin, as the way it stands it’s a bit hard to take this Camaro too seriously, at least as a sports car. Keeping the shifter all black, at the very least, would have been a welcome change. But opinions are like tailpipes, everybody’s got one and most of them stink. Is this Camaro too yellow for your liking, or does the black contrast hit you in just the right way?
