A lot of things on a high-milage car can remind you of its age: a whining belt, a wobbly wheel bearing, or even a speaker that can’t handle bass anymore. Here, you’d probably start thinking about total beaters; ones that smell strongly of yesterday’s trip to Taco Bell, with the faint whiff of puke or something that just doesn’t sit right, and no amount of “airing out” ever seems to get rid of.
But despite all these quirks and traits, the cars plod along ever further, their motors and transmissions needing only the most basic of maintenance to continue uninterrupted. Typically, you might picture vehicles like a Toyota truck, a Chevy van, or something along those lines. But can the same be said about Corvettes?
The answer is: yes, it can. The video above, narrated by its owner (only referred to as “Mark”), states unequivocally that his C5 has driven close to 650,000 miles, and he has the proof to back it up.
Before we get to that, however, let’s take a moment to understand what the heck is going on with this Vette. It’s a 2000 Torch Red coupe, powered by what can only be a 5.7-liter LS1 (the LS6 would not debut until 2001, mind you), and most likely the automatic version.
The miles on the clock are a result of Mark’s businesses in Florida and Georgia, which Mark drives to on a regular basis, as he has done for what must have been a number of years. All doubt is cast aside as the video nears the 1:04 mark, when it is ultimately revealed that the car has a whopping 649,258 miles on the odometer.
So let that be a lesson to any who say that a Corvette doesn’t have the build quality to live a long life. Mark knows it, and now we know it; do you?
