Hot Wheels Camaro to Become Reality for Select Few Enthusiasts

Actually driving a Hot Wheels car has been a dream of many automotive enthusiasts since the very beginning of the toy car brand, including that of Hot Wheels Designer Felix Holst. But it wasn’t until last year that the possibility of carrying out that dream with a production car came true. With the debut of the Hot Wheels Camaro at the 2011 SEMA Show, everyone who grew up playing with Hot Wheels toys was given a glimpse at something that many thought would never exist- a real life-sized Hot Wheels car meant to be driven as a grownup’s toy.

Unfortunately, the now famous Metallic Lime Green car was only a concept car meant to bring inspiration to fifth-generation Camaro owners on ways to create their own unique “Hot Wheels.” That is until now. For those of you who’ve always wanted a life-size Hot Wheels car, now you have your chance as Chevrolet is releasing a production version of the Hot Wheels Camaro for consumer purchase. Check it out in the video above.

The 2011 Hot Wheels Concept Camaro was beyond what anyone could expect as far as a grown-up version of the famous Hot Wheels toys. Clad in vibrant Lime Green paint and complete with Hot Wheels flames and badging, the concept car stole the hearts of many. But while that exact car isn’t currently for sale, you can get your very own Camaro Hot Wheels Edition with orders being taken starting November 1st and cars arriving at dealerships in early 2013.

Now, if you’re going to be at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the production Hot Wheels Camaro there. But if not, we’ve got all the information you need to know about this brand new Camaro trim option thanks to GM News.

“Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels,” Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing said in a recent GM News release. “Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages.”

Available on both the V6 2LT and V8 2SS Camaro models (coupe or convertible), the Hot Wheels Edition package will add all the design cues you’d expect on a life-size Hot Wheels, including 21-inch red-lined wheels, a ground effects package, two-toned matte black hood treatment and blackout tail panel, metallic paint scheme and Hot Wheels graphics. Rather than the green paint scheme debuted at the 2011 SEMA Show, the production Hot Wheels Edition cars will feature a metallic Kinetic Blue paint scheme with ghost Hot Wheels flames down the rear fenders. You’ll also find some design cues borrowed from the ZL1 Camaro on the Hot Wheels Edition cars, like the rear spoiler and front upper grille.

Inside the car you’ll find more Hot Wheels touches, from the black leather-trimmed interior complete with red and black stitching, as well as Hot Wheels logos embroidered into the front seats, to Hot Wheels flame logos on the doors and special edition Hot Wheels sill plates.

Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system also comes standard on the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition, while optional upgrades like a dual-mode exhaust system and transmission choices are available on the 2SS Hot Wheels models.

When you were a kid, having a cool Hot Wheels collection was the ultimate goal, and now that collection can finally be complete with the first ever life-size Hot Wheels model ever offered as a production vehicle. But you’re going to have to act fast to get your hands on one of these beauties because once these limited run production cars are gone, you’re out of luck.
