Some of us here at powerTV are real big fans of hide-away headlights. It isn’t a recent phenomenon though, as the earliest example of a car which hid the headlights was the 1936 Cord 810 Convertible. Many muscle cars used movable grilles to hide their headlights as well, from the Mercury Cougar to the Chevy Camaro and Chevy Corvette. While the Cougar is dead and gone, the Camaro has been revived… sans the hideaway headlights.
A new aftermarket kit from DJ Grilles, found by DubsDaily, does a pretty good job of hiding the 2010-11 Camaro’s headlights, and makes a mean car look downright evil.
Called simply the “PHANTOM Hidden Headlight Grille”, this two-piece kit was built by DJ Grilles and features an upper and lower part of the grille. The upper part of the grille fits right over the stock grille, with the option of fixed or removable headlight bezels. As the video above demonstrates, adding or removing the bezels is really easy, and gives your Camaro a nasty-looking scowl that says simply “Don’t mess with me”.
You can get the upper grille, or matching lower air-vent cover separately or together. There are four different variations on the grille, from black-on-black to black-on-stainless steel, so on and so forth. We’d like to see some factory hideaway headlights on the Camaro RS personally, but in lieu of that, these PHANTOM headlight grilles are pretty badass. But what do you guys think?
