Goodguys To Feature Engine Building Competitions at Three Events

With the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association officially kicking off their 30th anniversary last weekend, we can expect nothing less than a fun-filled year when it comes to the association’s numerous national events. But just in case you were looking for something more to spice up your time this summer, the folks at Goodguys recently announced that they will be including interactive engine building competitions at select shows this season. That means whether you’re new to the scene or a seasoned vet, you can show off your stuff for all the Goodguys show goers to see, or watch your peers compete for some pretty stellar prizes.

The first engine challenge will take place at the Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together June 1st and 2nd at the Pleasanton, California Fairgrounds. Here, the show will play host to one of the many Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge events for 2013.

While this challenge is specifically for teams of high schoolers, there’s never a dull moment when watching these next-gen enthusiasts compete to build their small-block engines faster than other teams.

Those teams that progress with the fastest times move on for a chance to compete at the national competition held every year at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The next engine challenge will take place at the Goodguys 16th PPG Nationals, held July 12th through the 14th at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio. Here, two teams of two people will have a chance to compete against each other as part of the COMP Cams Builder Duel presented by Snap-On. The team that is able to put together their Chevy small-block and crank it first, equipped with only their own knowledge and provided hardware, wins the challenge and $250 gift certificates from COMP Cams. The runners up receive $125 COMP Cams gift certificates.

At the 21st Lone Star Nationals, held from October 4th through the 6th at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, the Goodguys association will once again run the COMP Cams Builder Duel, giving you two chances to get in on the competitive action.

Whether you’re an avid engine builder or would just like to try your luck, the engine building competitions held at three Goodguys events this season are sure to get your cylinders firing. Be sure to plan your trips now, and start studying those engines while you can!
