2011 is already shaping up to be a watershed moment in the annals of General Motors racing history. Corvette Racing is getting ready to get back to work on the American Le Mans Circuit, and joining the two ‘Vettes will be a pair of Cadillac CTS-V Coupe race cars taking on all comers in the Sports Car Cup of America World Challenge GT. It’s an important return to racing for America’s luxury car leader.
The opening race of the SCCA World Challenge GT is less then a month away, and drivers Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell (formerly of Corvette Racing) are out testing and tuning their Caddy’s for the upcoming race.
There isn’t much left to be said about the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Racers that hasn’t already been said. Both Pilgrim and O’Connell are veteran Corvette racers, giving this team of luxury coupes the experience it needs behind the wheel. In fact, back in 2005, Andy Pilgrim took home the GT class championship in a Cadillac CTS-V sedan.
However, the SCCA World Challenge GT features some of the most competitive racing in motorsports, and in recent years Porsche has dominated the GT class (though last years winner drove, of all things, a Volvo.) So our two drivers certainly have their work cut out for them. That being said, the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Racer looks as ready as ever to take on the world, and we’re sure they will give those Porsches a run for their money.
