It might not sounds like a big deal to some, but the Chevrolet Camaro’s outselling of the Ford Mustang for 2010 is actually quite a feat. Not since 1985 has the venerable Camaro trumped the pioneer pony car, which gives us Chevy lovers something to cheer about.

Curious, Ford just doesn’t seem to care. Ford sales analyst George Pipas said concerning the upset, “If that was important, we wouldn’t have taken a shift off at Flat Rock;” the plant that assembles the Mustang.

Either way, it’s pretty interesting news, particularly as 2011 is sizing up to be a banner year for the resurrected Camaro thanks in part to the return of the convertible model as well as the long awaited and largely rumored Z/28, both cars that have been garnering some serious press as time continues to tick on. Will Ford’s pony car return to the head of the pack next year? It’s hard to tell, especially with Chevrolet sending in such strong reinforcements.
