When the Chevrolet Camaro made its triumphant return as the flagship muscle car out of the General Motors camp two years ago, it was only natural that racers the world-over would hold a natural craving to have one, as they had in the four decades previous.

The problem to date, however, has been not only making the newest generation Camaro aesthetically pleasing in the form of a race car, but making the rather large and boxy production body into an aerodynamic thoroughbred while retaining much of the production design cues and measurements. Many have taken a crack at it with varying results, depending on who’s judging.

But now, nearly two years after production began on the new Camaro, the mass production of 2011 Camaro drag racing bodies is set to begin.

Five Star Racing Bodies, in conjunction with Rick Jones Race Cars, has announced the release of it’s new 2011 Chevrolet Camaro body that’s expected to bring the famed muscle car namesake back into the drag racing mainstream. Five Star designs and manufactures many different bodies for use in drag racing, including the new Pro Stock Dodge Avenger, and their talented design staff was put to the task of designing the new Camaro body that will be available in fiberglass, carbon fiber, and a special ultra lightweight version.

The bodies are stock appearing and are designed for maximum aerodynamic performance. They fit on a 105″ to 115″ wheelbase and have a front overhang that measures 45″ and a total height of 44″. They are expected to be available and in stock by June 1, 2011.

For the sake of eliminating redundancy, let’s hope a few Pro Modified racers ditch their first-gen’s for one of these.
