Normally when you hear about car crash involving an SUV and Firebird, one pictures the SUV destroying the car regardless of fault. According to the Southeast Missourian’s website, a Pontiac Firebird blew a red light in Cape Girardeau, MO on Thursday April 21st, 2011. An undefined woman, who was driving the SUV, stated that she was driving south on Mount Auburn Road when the Firebird careened into her vehicle. Before the SUV was through the intersection at Mount Auburn Road and William Street (a major intersection in Cape Girardeau, according the Southeast Missourian), the Firebird smacked the vehicle knocking it on over. The SUV spun, and came to rest on the driver’s side across the lanes on Mount Auburn Road.
Once the SUV flipped over, a nearby Ford F150 sustained damage when the SUV made impact with it. From the pictures, the front end of the Firebird is severely damaged, but it seems as though it should be in worse shape after a collision that sent an SUV on its side. According to reports the driver of the Firebird allegedly ran the red light, striking the SUV as it traveled south. Despite the damage caused to the three vehicles, no one was injured. Most likely the Firebird will be totaled, but this speaks volumes for the engineering and safety features built into these cars. Perhaps, the painful loss of a once nice looking Firebird will serve as a reminder to this driver not run red lights.
